Our staged reading is based on the popular 1984 musical drama film about Ren Mccormack, a city teenager who moves to a small town where he attempts to overturn the bans on rock music and dancing instituted by a local minister.
"We're excited that a talented local crew is bringing this thought-provoking and fun classic to our neighborhood," says Pastor Jacki Belile. "The courage to discern and to challenge unnecessary restrictions of tradition remains very important in our day."
Director Dina Marie Walters is a twenty-year veteran of the Chicago theater community. She will be joined on stage by a cast of seasoned performers from companies such as The Neo-Futurists, Teatro Vista, and the Chicago improv scene. The reading will take a comedic and satirical approach to the classic film.
Proceeds will benefit Eden Church’s ongoing building improvements for outreach to the community.
